Mapping the Development of Conditions for Collaborative Learning in School Communities of Practice

Developing schools, where learning genuinely occurs, can be difficult and uncertain work. This document offers a map to guide school teams in this challenging work as they forge, grow and sustain the conditions that can support continuous learning for instructional improvement.

The map depicts the features inherent in communities of practice in schools where practitioners continuously improve their teaching. Several features, essential to such communities of practice, are identified and discussed. These are: time for collaboration, purposeful collaboration and public practice.
