Differentiating PD for Male Teachers of Color

While students of color became the majority of all U.S. public school students in the fall of 2014, only 2 percent of all U.S. teachers are Latino men, less than 2 percent are Black men, and only 0.5 percent are Asian men. Not only are these teachers underrepresented but they have high turnover rates.

In this article for ASCD Express, "Differentiating PD for Male Teachers of Color," SCOPE researcher Travis Bristol discusses a project developed to support these teachers — the Boston Teacher Residency Male Teachers of Color Network. The network addressed the unique social-emotional needs of male teachers of color and ways to equip them with the skills to improve learning for culturally diverse students.
